Buildings and contents insurance 'equally important'
Buildings and home contents insurance policies are equally important for property owners, according to one of the UK's largest mortgage lenders.
Nationwide's campaigns manager Charlotte Sjoberg has said that both types of cover play a "really important" role in protecting homeowners and added that it was also vital that people had the right amount of cover for their properties.
She added that the building society also sells both building and home contents policies together online with a 30 per cent discount in an effort to encourage consumers to take out the insurance.
"We are trying to re-incentivise people to take out those policies because we know how important it is. I'm sure our competitors do the same thing," she explained.
Recent research by Nationwide found that one in five homeowners in the UK do not have buildings insurance, while one in four are not sure of what is covered in their policy.
The study also found that 14 per cent of people do not have home insurance.
